I recently got an old pro mac 55 from my grandfather. It hadn't been run in atleast 25 years. I put some gas in, pulled the cord a few times and it fired right up. Anyone know how many cc's. Was this considered a decent saw in its day? Is it worth anything. I probably won't use it very much as I have some newer saws. Don't really want to sell it or anything, Just curious about it.

If I am looking at the right thing in my book, it was 57.4cc,
thats all i can tell you as i have never used one....I'm sure someone else will fill in the rest for you...Mike

Thanks,
appreciate it. Just curious if anyone here has had any experiences with it. What's its reputation.

I have the 555 wich is about the same saw. I like it. It's light for an older saw and more powerful than I expected for a saw this size. 20" bar full comp 3/8 chisel chain in hard dry oak, no problem. Also most parts from the 10-10 series(very common) are interchangeable.

Good Mac. Good power. I have two and like them a lot. They will run a 20" with 3/8 as previously stated. I prefer 16 - 18" bars on them. They do vibrate a lot more than most new saws. If it has the original era Mac chain on it use it up and replace it with a newer semi-chisel, that will make it all the more fun. Rim/drum sets are readily available and bars are abundant. There are a lot of OEM parts still out there for them as well. Good luck, it should be a good back up saw if not first line.

I have an old 10-10 that is similar to your 55 as a back up to my Promac 850. I think it is a great little saw. It is heavy, vibrates and is noisy but gets the job done. Parts are always available on ebay.

Thanks for the info guys. I will try to get a chain for it and give it a wurl. It has a 16" stock bar on it. I don't know what chain to use though. The local saw dealer wasn't really sure either. The only thing i know is that it is .050.
Thanks

Any 3/8 pitch .50 guage chain will do. I would recommend semi chisel untill you are a little more used to the saw.
