I found out Saturday that McCulloch builds a top handle saw. I had no idea that such a creature existed. It has a 14” bar and is 32 cc. I have never used a McCulloch and have no idea if they are any good or what they cost. I have used an 020 and 335 and I know this saw in no way is in the same class. Is it worth having as a back up to the 020 and is $60.00 worth it? Anyone have any info on this saw?

Tim,
Is this one of the Jenn Feng McCulloch, or an older, pre '99 model?
The "new" 1432 is not a top handle to the best of my knowledge.

Mack,

All I know is the model # is 60012304 and the starter has "Eager Beaver" printed on it and it is a top handle. Thanks for any help you can give.

That sounds like the "old" McCulloch. What is it running for chain? Many had 1/4 in. pitch, guard links, and no brake. The hardware chains used to sell then for like $59.95, a few years back. We don't even try to work on them, however when they run they seem to cut OK. Not sure I'd give much for one, though. The later ones may have had a brake.
We have had a lot odd, out of date stuff come through the shop lately, marked "reconditioned" Homelites, Poulan, McC's. I think there must be a warehouse full somewhere. I'd be afraid to sell anything that's not AK compliant.

Tim, I had one of those once(knocked $50 off of a job and accepted the saw). It was poorly balanced, hard to start, prone to die suddenly, changed carb adjustments on its own, seemed to need altitude compensation from the groiund to 40'up in the tree, and awkward to use. It wasn't too heavy though! Best use for that saw was as a boat anchor.

McCulloch made that same saw from the early '70s until the '90s. Cheap top handle, I suppose originally for climbing but it went fast into the consumer line. I have three that I pulled out of the local dumpster. They'll probably end up as $30 eBay specials.

I'd buy a Poulan 25/XXV/2300/whatever if you're looking for a cheap top-handle.

John had it dead on. Mac made these in some form for many, many years. I was dropping off a refrigerator at the landfill a few months back. I noticed a yellow chainsaw case sitting next to some stoves. I opened it up and inside was one of the later model "Eager Beaver" top handles. I am not the type of person to take something without asking so I looked around until I found someone to ask if I could have it. The one guy I could find said I could have it so I tossed it in my truck.

What about the PowerMac 310?? (not sure of model #). Used one of them up until a year ago. Muffler rotted off and got WAYYYY too loud. Still have it tho, runs good. LOUD, but good.

Top handle "MCCULLOCH" saws were the PM6,then the "MINI MAC",110,120,130,140'S,,,,then the 300 series 310,320, and the "TITAN 7". The PM6 was the best of all but those days are gone.ECHO , HUSQVARNA , STIHL, TANAKA , and SHINDIAWA, are the saws that come to mind of today. The husky 335 series and the stihl 019 series had to have the worst engineered saws since the mcculloch mini macs that you couldn't remove the starter .This topic could go on forever....... any other thoughts ????? :D
