I have recently gotten the opportunity to meet with Eric at NE Tree from this site. I found it really fun and educational to meet with someone who just as myself wants to continue advancing his carreer in the tree care industry. His knowledge + my knowledge created some interesting conversation between the 2 of us. We were both able to learn some new things. What I am wondering is if anyone here takes advantage of the oppertunities that this site gives to us by meeting with your fellow members not only to learn more about the industry but also each other. I think that doing so helps us all to work in a much safer manner. Anyone else had any similar experiences.

I've met several guys (and their families) from this site. Let me see if I can remember them all.
Treeman14- Brett
Budroe- Spencer
John Paul Sanborn
Oxman- Mike
Guy Muillier
SeanLarkin- Sherrill Arborist Supply
DDM- Dave
TreeCo- Dan
Mike Cross
Monkeypuzzle
Greg (from Jacksonville)

Talk about an enrichment! I am greatful beyond words how much I have enjoyed meeting and sharing with all these guys. I've climbed with more climbers from this site than I have with local guys in the last 5 years! Climbing can be a rather solitary profession since there is rarely more than one climber on a job. I'm looking forward to spending more air time with fellow AS members in the future. My climbing skills have progressed more than I could have ever imagined since finding this place.

Anyone who says internet dating doesn't work is off their rocker. Look at all of the relationships that have started on discussion forums.

Glenn Riggs was the first person that I met online and then got to know in person. That was quite a while ago. I've had the opportunity to meet many arbos in person after talking in the forums. This is really a valuable medium.

I've told people that I met this guy thru the NET and took on some strange looks. That mikecross23 sure is a handsome fellow but keep it in the saddle,he he sorry dude.

Also met Treeclimber165 and Greg a few weeks ago for a climb or two.

I tend to stay away from the public and folks in general but these are tree guys and we do have a lot in common.

I kinda want to go to Baltimore in Nov.03, I'm sure a few more of these Florida boys would like to go to the EXPO. Road trip anyone?

When I told my mother I was going to Tallahassee to see some guys I met on the internet I got that same look....
--Looking forward to the next FL fun climb!!

It's always fun to see how other people work, and sometimes you get new ideas. I liked Tim's flipline... (guess what I just ordered...)

All kidding aside, it was great to not be in charge for once, and to sit back and actually ENJOY a challenging take-down.

Meeting other tree guys helps put a face to those we talk to on the net, and I've had the priveledge of meeting some very nice people, and have done a few collaborative jobs with them. Arbos as a whole are in a family all our own, and sometimes we need to be reminded of that at times OTHER than another FACE report.

What he said.;) I've hung out with monkeypuzzle quite a few times b/c we live pretty close to each other. Brian (Treeclimber165) has come up for two rec. climbs and Greg came over from Jacksonville, Florida for our last climb.

Baltimore, November 3? Road trip sounds good to me!!!:D

Baltimore in November- I'm there! I already have a date with Tom. Hope he's as cute as his pictures. :D I figure we will start discussing accomodations/ schedules about August or so.

Y'äll are starting to scare me...

Sorry about the double login/new user....language/cookie thing. Anyway, I am in Germany and no, I am not a rodeo clown. $370 roundtrip. War is great for air fare. Looking forward to meeting some online contacts. Going to a seminar being held by Mark Bridge, Bernd Strasser, Kay Busemann, Ronny and others on Tuesday. There was a preregistration date I missed. Contacted Mark and he said that if I have problems bs-ing my way in, come find him and he will straighten it all out.

The basis for good friendships exist here.

I would still like to meet Tom - are you going to be in Dallas on the 29th??(tx TCC)

Hopefully I can meet a few faces at the tcc from here (Heartland, lhampton, etc)

Don't know when I'll see Brian. Sure I will sometime.

Tree work can be solitary. Especially as the boss or as an independent/contract climber.

Every time I watch a knowlegeable climber in person, I learn 10X more than I do in a book or online. Either "Whoa, never seen that" or "Oh, that is why I don't do that"

Thanks again to all here

I met Big John through the buzz and we worked together five times last year... His climbing skills far exceed mine and so has been a great go to man, in place of cranes and getting my a$$ kicked by the big ones.... Still gotta get him to watch those Dutchmans when he's bombing chunks....
I'm 43 and had a nasty case of Lyme disease in 98, which radically reduced my stamina.. I think I Am finally getting back to around 50%... It's nice to know I don't have to do it all myself and be able to work with a climber of Big Jon's caliber...

I'm going to miss the TxTCC this year. I bummed but I have a working vacation planned. Heading to a committee meeting in Boston, then to London and four days of vacation. Then I'll spend two weeks doing some trainings with a friend from Wales that I met on T*ee B*zz. It's fun mixing business and pleasure.

TreeTx,

I'll be spending some time helping with the kids climb at the TXTCC (at 5'2" I'll be the short one :) ). Look forward to meeting you and Heartland.

Erik and Tim, where did you guys meet up? I was at the Mass Tree Warden's meeting on Thursday after lunch. From the time they handed out the scholarships, to the time that Karen finished talking. Was I alone there??

sorry treeman we met at my office/house. then we later got together for Eric to see some of the best climbing of his life on a huge sugar maple. (OK maybe not the best but someone has to boost my ego) LOL:D
What was the MA tree wardens conv? I didnt know anything about it.

Yeah, they had a full day seminar about vintage trees. I only caught the later half, but Karen from Trees New England was there talking about vintage tree inventories, this guy from Lowden or Louden Tree was there talking about structural pruning on vintage trees. Then the guy from VT who was in TCI last month was there showing off all kinds of cabling systems. That guy had some SICK trees. MASSIVE!!!

cool I wish I would have known. It sounds like something that I might have been interested in. Wish I could have checked it out. I would like to get into some more training things like that butI never hear about them until it is to late.

I was fortunate enough to hook up with Dan (TreeCo) today. We have been exhanging email for about a week or two and finally were able to make our schedules match. I got to see the man in action and I was very impressed. I was allowed to work his ropes for him, which I had never done before but most of it seemed to be just common sense. With a little coaching from him, I think I did O.K.. He was up in the tree the whole time I was there and I had to go back to my real job before he was able to come down, but I hope to work with him again in the future. I'm sure we will get together for some climbing anyway. Thanks Dan, I appreciate the knowledge you have bestowed upon me and look forward to doing it again.
Hope to be able to meet many more of you out there. If you are ever in Atlanta look me up, and I will do the same if my travels take me close to any of you.
Kelly

I worked with Gopher (AKA Dave Ryan) over the weekend and we hhoked up to break bread with Tom D.

Nick Arraya and I will going out to help on the Beranek Tree House redwood project, leaving this weekend. On the way I'll be working with Fred B. and his crew.

(Anyone else in the Bolder area need help for a day or two? Fred don't have enough for 2 of us all week)

Sean Gere may have lined us up some work in Salt Lake on the way back.
