Nice shoes- I have an almost identical pair. However i don't care for them for climbing . Firstly b/c they aren't above ankle height. Therefore they do not comply w/ ansi. Besides that they're no good for footlocking(you'll ge burns on the front of your ankle) or for wearing spurs.
so buy them for recreation or whatever else, just keep them out of the trees.

i wouldn't care for them for work for 2 reasons......since their low cut they will always fill up with saw dust.......and they don't have a good cut out in the instep to hold a gaff. i swear by mid weight hikers but those are not it.

Gaffs dont bother my feet. I have climbed in sneakers....didnt like it but doable. These would be used STRICTLY on pruning and such where the tacky soles would come in handy footlocking and limbwalking.

I have the Chameleon II Mids and I love them. I have worn them with spikes and didn't have any probs. I wasn't on them for long though. I personally give them my approval.

Are those the Goretex or just waterproof version? I am wondering how waterprrof they are with a coating of water repellent on them or if I should just go with the goretex.

They are not the Goretex. Not to waterproof either. I don't work in the rain though, unless it's an emergency, in which case I can deal with wet feet.
