Must be firewood season again, more threads on proper top plate angles and file sizes ect. ect. Ok I have a question, can someone convert metric depth gauge that are in millimeters ( ?? ) over to thousands of an inch. I have gotten away from using my depth gauge tools that are in thousandsths and use the tools that came with my Sthil saws.

.404 = 0.80 mm ?

3/8 = 0.65 mm ? .

My neighbor came over for a saw sharpening lesson, he had a depth gauge tool that was still different from my stuff.

He had 0.45 mm which I assume is for .325 and 3/8ths LP

What is going on here ????? Anyone???

5 milimeters = 0.196850393700787 of an inch

20 milimeters = 7.8740157480315 of an inch

30 milimeters = 11.8110236220472 of an inch

40 milimeters = 1.5748031496063 of an inch

Man of few words, I like that :cool:

I went out and dug out one of my owners manuels for a Sthil saw, I see where you got the numbers. Shows how much I read them. :rolleyes:

That oddball 0.45 depth is for Sthils mini chain. My neighbor was running regular 3/8ths and wondering why his saw wasn't cutting so good, had to straighten him out on some other fine points on how to sharpen a saw.

OK we can let this thread become history.
