Hoping no one else has had this issue, but if you have....

Sent a message when this issue was found to the manufacturer, but I haven't heard from them....disappointing so far. Not sure why problem occured? I don't mistreat my equipment......it's never been dropped, crushed, or whatever.

Product:
Granberg Alaskan #777 Mill

Details of problem:
Weld broken on clamp pin. (The lower side of the part that clamps to the bar has welded pins on each end inside the tube steel) If I had to guess the original weld was 'cold' and just made a surface 'bubble' on the outside of the pin.....

Do I get someone that welds aluminum to just re-weld it?
Do I remove the 'pins' and install a bolt/nut for spacer/lock washer nut system?(and then constantly be checking to see if it's still tight)
Or is there a 'better fix'?

Scott,

Sorry to hear your mill is inoperative right now. Can you post a picture of where the weld broke on the mill. Maybe someone in your area can help you out with a quick weld.

Took it to the 'local guy' here in Cabot....4 seconds later, got a functional mill attachment!

He took one look at it..."Yup, cold weld." ZZZZT "Fixed. Hava nice day!"
He took pictures and made a few measurements....guess he's gonna make one for himself?

It happens...

might get better response by calling. A lot of companies get inundated with emails and don't answer so good. My alaskan is steel I think with a zinc coating to prevent rust. Don't breathe the fumes when you weld those they're toxic-in fact, keep your head out of the plume no matter what you weld. Anyway, easy fix and back to milling. Looking forward to some milling pics from you in the future!

Actually won't be using it again until maybe next weekend....got to ride the bandsaw to get what I've already milled into useable chunks. Can't put it off any longer, got 25 slabs on the trailer that need my attention.

It's a visious cycle...cut the slabs, make some blanks, sell the blanks, need more slabs......someones got to do it though!

Cool! Sounds like you will be pretty busy from what you say. Be careful and have fun making $$$.

Money is nice...no doubt about that, set a goal to cut enough blanks this year to purchase a small manual bandsaw mill. Don't get me wrong, the chainsaw mill will always be in the truck when looking over new nasty looking logs! I would just like to increase the amount of free time to turn the wood I enjoy cutting....

Cut up about $1,500.00 worth of blanks today. I'll be photo'ing tomorrow and marketing where they need to be. Not bad for a few hours of fun!!!
