The snow finally melted enough for me to try out the Alaskan MK III, Mini mill and rails I got over the Holidays. I'm working on selectively clearing about 10 acres of my land and I have a lot of nice hardwood logs that I've saved. I'd been wanting use some of them for woodworking instead of burning them all in the wood stove or burn pile, so I got the Chainsaw Mill.

It was a little slow going at 1st with figuring out everything, but after that, it went pretty smooth. I have a small pile of Yellow Poplar logs set aside for this 1st milling and I got 2 logs milled in about 4 hours. That yields me nine 1 1/2" x 12" x 13' boards. It was dark when I finished, but I got them stacked in the basement to dry.

When ordering everything, I forgot to get some 20" ripping chain for my 038 Mag paired with the Mini Mill (it's on it's way now though). That made cutting the sides of the log a little tougher than it should have been and I couldn't believe the amount of saw dust it through. Through it all up in the air and down on my head and in my shirt... Gotta figure out a better system for that...

Anyway, thought I'd share and post a few pics. These are "after" pics, but they're better than no pics...

Edit you post by changing the url to img inside the brackets and it should embed the pics...

Good work country1 - thanks for posting the pictures.

That loader does look pretty handy.

RE: sawdust going everywhere.
I know what you mean. If you can adapt your mini-mill to cut with the top of the bar the sawdust then goes down instead of up and makes a lot less mess.

Thanks Bob!
Read a lot of your posts, thanks for all the help.

I'll look at switching the mini around and feeding with the top of the bar. Sounds like the answer if I can get that to work.:)

Actually, that's a pretty good clip for a chainsaw mill.

I think my personal record is twenty one 12' boards in a loooooong day.

You must be doing something right.

Welcome to the elite milling club.
Don't know if that makes me happy or disapointed...:)
Making enough lumber for a small barn will be a long process...:greenchainsaw:
