Hey guys, been watching videos on you tube and doing some reading on the forum and I am looking for some video or good reading material that describes appropriate milling technique with band saw mills.

I will be milling lots of 1" planks, 2x6's, 2x8's and 2x12's, also a few beams. I have never done any sort of milling so I don't really know where to start. I will be cutting down all the trees this weekend, and won't be milling until mid march sometime. Not new to chainsaws, carpentry, felling trees or running heavy equipment, just new to milling.

Thanks in advance!!! I am super pumped to start milling lumber, can't wait to build a barn from lumber I have milled!! Pictures to come once I start milling and building.

This video of a Norwood band mill shows some of the basics. I'd highly recommend you find a band saw in your area (preferably one with your type of saw) and learn from the experience of others, as much as you can. Keep the proper tension on the blade, keep a sharp blade on the mill, and do your best to keep the the blade higher than the dogs & clamps. Take your time, learn from your mistakes, and keep us posted.

That's what I was looking for, just basic milling technique. The way he milled that log is what I would have done also, just good to see how people typically cut the logs up to get the size they need.
