So the big saw in my fleet is a ProMac 850 and there is an Alaskan MK3 for sale locally. Got the wheels turning. I don't really have much use for the saw, maybe put it on milling duty for a while??? Bad idea? You tell me. Aside from the saw there are 2 other considerations for my entry into the milling world. First, my next door neighbor is a custom cabinet builder and I have a free pass to use his shop at any time, nice, I know. The other factor is wood storage. Unfortunately I live in suburbia and would have to store my milled boards indoors. Is it acceptable to store fresh cut boards in a basement thats climate controlled w/low humidity? Take it easy on me, I know next to nothing about milling. :chainsaw:

Welcome to the milling forum - we are very friendly here althought there are some ergonomic nutters around here you need to watch out for.:D

Promac 850, it's not going to set the world on fire but it will work.

RE: Indoor storage, Basement that has climate control
It depends on how much wood you put in there. Too much really green wood will overwhelm most systems. Maybe store it outside under cover for a while first?

Exactly what I expected to hear, not going to set any speed records. Thats ok by me, I'm in no hurry and will likely be doing small amounts at a time. Will the low humidity have any ill effects on the way the boards dry?
