My dad is a tough ol' codger. He is 88 years old, and broke his hip four months ago, but refuses to use a walker or cane. He helps around the mill every chance he gets, mostly running the winch and doing sawdust control. We were so busy last Sunday that I forgot to wish him a happy Father's Day, but I think he had one anyway.

Every two passes, he dumps the sawdust out of the bucket.

It's sad to think how many boys today don't know what it's like to have a good dad. My dad passed away in 2004 of prostate cancer. He was 81 and still bigger and stronger than I ever was. We were close, and did a lot of things together, and had a lot of good times. It's a blessing to live long enough that your parents don't have to parent you anymore, and can become friends with you, Joe.

Joe, you put it beautifully. My condolences on the loss of your dad. 10 years pass so quickly! It seems like you have all the time in the world, then suddenly it is gone. I get along much better with my son now that he is grown and has kids of his own. I think he is starting to understand why I did (or didn't) do so many things..

I'm dead jealous! My Dad who started out working as a tree faller with axes and cross cut saws passed away about 5 years before I rekindled my interest in chainsaws and then started milling. Even though he was a grump and according to him I never did things properly it would have been fun for him to at least know what I had got into and he would have loved to see the big chainsaws again.

Amazing! 88 years old and still getting after it! I bet the help and company is indispensable too. My father is critical to my operation and everytime we are working together no matter how hard, hot, cold, or dirty the work is it's always a summer breeze when we are together.

Dad or Granddad, a day with either or both was always fantastic. Enjoy every minute because if the devil were to appear and offer me more time with my Grandfather, my sole would be handed over to the devil before he finished the offer. Glad you had such a great Father's Day.

Morning Bob,
I still have my dad and he turns 90 this month. The body is failing him but the mind is still there. I still have the first chainsaw he bought, my WARDS 820. He likes to come see me run the mill and I love having him around to watch. Haven't been able to mill much, had a bout with kidney stones. Felt like I was having triplets!

Doing some mods to the mill and will have pictures to post when I mill.

Hi, Rob. I guess good looks, like intelligence, skipped a generation in our family. Glad my kids surpass me in both regards. Looks like your dad was one tough guy! 820Wards, the only thing I have that belonged to my grandfather is an old Pioneer chain saw. Some day I may actually get it runnng, but for now it is a decoration on the wall.
