Good information. I used to mix my own to treat logs and lumber, but have since just been using timbor. Works just fine. Like you say the key is keeping it dry after application. Other wise it's just a waste
Which mix formula did you use?

It's good to have in case bugs get into any of the outbuilding structures. PPBs, roaches, carpenter ants, termites. Can spray down the insides and the foundations/sills.

You can mix the solution with brown sugar/honey/syurp and put it out bait stations in tuna cans. Works great on ants. They bring it home and it kills the nest.

I just had a thought? The powder poured down the entrance of a ground bee/hornets nest might work too.

9.3lbs (1 gallon) glycol (rv antifreeze)
4.5lbs borax (20 Mule team soap)
3.5lbs boric acid. (Roach killer 99% boric acid version)
do this outside. Don't breathe the fumes. Mix and bring to a boil till it hit 260*F, stirring constantly. Let cool. Run it through a paint strainer into a container. If your mix ratio is right, you should have right under a gallon of 26% concentrate. It's stable to around 40*f. Mix 50/50 with distilled water right before application.
I've been told you can use any antifreeze/ glycol. But rv antifreeze is supposedly less toxic, so thats what I used. Supposedly it's about the same concoction as bora care or timbor.
I haven't been doing much milling, or been keeping a lot of rough cut timber around, so on the occasion I have need I've been getting timbor powder and mixing up a small batch as needed. I don't think it oenitrates quite as well as the concoction I made in the past, but I haven't had bug issues either using the timbor.
