Reddog: you need to get your boots broke in! caulk boots do sure help quite a bit. i bought mine used for $40 and soaked them with half a bottle of leather conditioner. they turned out great!

Can we get a video of that or at least some action shots ;)

Looks like a man could get hurt in a hurry with the trees in
your pics Lake. I'm glad it's not me! Good luck.

You have no idea how close I came today... I need to stop cutting alone..

Anyhow, it was RB's fault -I was using his hopped up 346xp! (just testing it) :D)

Cutting a bad hung-up tree with a lot of tension... worked my way along it nicely dropping it into the ground... in 3 foot chunks. Thought I be real smart with the last piece - 14 inch diameter, broken about 20 feet up, so if I cut it to say 21, it will just stay by the other truck and I can fell it after nipping the break.. Great idea, but my eyeballs were off, and it cut it about a foot too short - it swung into the trunk, snapped of at the top hinge, flipped back at me and the jagged top JUST touched my hand. Never saw it coming either.. Knocked the saw about 5 feet way. No damage to the saw; couple of scratches on me. And as usual, it was to be my last cut of the day, but I was tired, and... and...

The tree tried to get me is the one with the bow shape to it...

Here's the end that tried to bite me...

Andy, you are missing out on excellent video opportunities.:D I'm sure Ekka could give you some good advice. Glad you to hear you were not seriously injured. Beautiful scenery by the way.

Thanks for the info. Glad you're alright. Quit cutting alone, dammit!

Andy, Roger, Gary.....roll call. I see Gary's logged on.

How'd you guys do last night? Power flickered a bit here, some rain....that's it. No tree work for me, and the rivers are up....I guess I'll just have to stay home today and watch the Colts and Seahawks games.

Hopefully you aren't thinking of going MIA again.......:greenchainsaw:

Bill here. Our lights flickered enough last night that I worried a bit, but it stayed on.

After losing power almost 10 days last time, I get nervous a little earlier. Fighting a drop dead deadline for a show (they already gave me an emergency extension) and I would be really up a creek if the power was out today.

I wonder how long before I don't worry every time the lights flicker in a windstorm?

Do you have a generator?

Glad you made it through OK. Watching the news right now, it doesn't look nearly as bad as las time.

I do have a generator, and that saved my azz last time, although I did get behind on work in the shop. Got plenty of saw time, though.

A main reason I have a generator is that I have 4 freezers full of wood, including lots of madrone burl which I have a lot of money into. During the last outage I moved the generator between the house and shop keeping freezers going. Shop has in gas floor heat so all I need for electricity is enough to run a small 1/4 hp recirc pump while I charge the freezers there. House as wood heat (and gas) so we are always good there.

Still I am pretty gunshy now about having power go out.

Never heard of that before.....

....I would be very interested to hear why the wood are in the freezer, and what you are going to use the wood for.....

Primarily I am a woodturner. Most of the wood I work I need to first work it fresh. Freezing is a way to put it in hibernation until I can get to it. Just like food.

I also boil wood and do all kinds of techniques to be able to work specific woods successfully.

To see some pics of what I do you can go to my website- listed in my profile. I don't put the link in a posting because it may be against some rules.
