The manual calls for a 40:1 gas:eek:il mix for the 075, but that was 30 years ago. Would there be any risk in using 50:1 mix? Is the reason newer saws require less oil in the mix than older saws because of improvements in oil or because of improvements in engines?

The engines are pretty much the same now as they were 30 years ago, oil though i svery much so evolved from the primitive stuff it was 30 years ago. The mix ratio would be best at 40:1 with MX2T oil for that saw, but I dont have the specs on every saw ever made yet.

Ran mine for awhile on Stihl mix @ 50:1. No problems, but all my 2-cycle stuff is now Maxima synthetic @32:1. Some of these old saws are hard to find parts for, so it makes me feel better. Probably way overkill.

To me the fuel mix ratio depends, somewhat on the age of the saw and the gas you are using. Here in NY, it was pointed out to me that the fuel or gas has up to 10% alcohol in this oxyegenated fuel, that alcohol has a tendency to cut the oil. I would use synthetic oils at slightly richer mixes than the saw call for. If your saw calls for 40/1 mix then use 32/1. A 50/1 mix I woud drop to at least 40/1 to be on the safe side. The fellow who pointed this out to me says he's seen to many saws that call for 50/1 mix burn up on on this 10% oxygenated crappy gas. He recomends 32/1 mix for all saws and I tend to agree with him. I've used Poulan oil and Castrol oils and always mixed them on the oil rich side. I've recently obtained some Mx2T Mobil 1 oil and have yet to try it. Trying to use up the gas I have already mixed up, but will start and stay with the Mobil 2 stroke oils. My older saws call for 16/1 mix and I'll use 32/1 because of the vastly improved synthetic oils. My other equipment calls for 32/1 and 40/1 mix, so I'll go to 32/1 and stick with it. I also plan to go to a step higher octane fuel to use with all my equipment. Do what you want, but would use 32/1 and stay with it, after you adjust the carburetor and set your saw up for the 32/1 mix. JMO. Lewis.
