You have tank pressure anytime you agitate the fuel, or if it gets warmer then the surroundings, etc... Pressure is GOOD... it help starting as you don't have to do much sucking of gas from the tank. Put your orange flapper back - it's a good thing... and you need it with your style of vent to stop leakage from the tank.

As for your carb... pressure test it... you either have a bad seat (unlikely), a bad needle (maybe), your metering spring is not located in the metering arm divit, or the metering arm is hopelessly out of adustment. Do you have the carb gaskets in the correct order - maybe someone screwed with the carb?

Have you tried your old 403 carb back on the saw to see if it runs fine?

Sorry... no more WT194's. but you can get one from your Walbro dealer brand new for $43 list

Its Alive!! And I Love It!

I got this baby finished last night. Fuel leak was the plastic elbow going into the tank, DUH. I replaced the impulse hose like I should have done in the first place. Now the high idle functions correctly. I took her out to the woods early this morning with my other 2 saws and tried her out with fresh Stihl .325 full chisel on my 290 and the 026 pro. Oh My Lord, that 026 kicked my new 290's :taped: I made a few cuts, then did a few final minute adjustments on the high speed, then final low idle adjustments, and this baby flat rocks and rolls. I was amazed what a muffler mod did for this thing. Thank you to all of you that have helped me with my first muffler mod, took me forever to get everything tuned up to make it work right, and it was absolutely worth it. I cut dead standing mulberry all day with it, no need to drag out the 290 or 034.

Glad to hear you got you're air leak fixed! You are done for now:ices_rofl: The muffler will be coming off the 290 next weekend, I can see it now! Then you will buy a dremel and pull the cylinder off the 026, do a litle grinding here, a little polishing there, and you will be selling that 290 and buying a "real saw"

Ya know, Im starting to kick myself in the hind end for buying that 290. I like it, but i really wanted a 361. I really dont know why I bought it, it was one of those spur of the moment deals, I shoulda waited. If I keep it, its gettin modded soon as warranty is up, or before...

Been there, done that. Bought my 390 and wished I'd bought a 440! Then I got my 262, and really wished I'd bought a 460! Life is better now, but I wish I had a good 60cc saw. My 046 is a cutting beast, but gets heavy after a while. I am old and lazy. My 346 is a good saw, but not what I needed, I am likeing it better, but a 60cc size saw is just about as handy as it gets! Put a 20" on that sucker and it does 90% of what anybody needs. And the weight is just about perfect for cutting all day.

Good point, for fire wood, I think the 60cc saw spends more time in my hands than any other.

Next thing you need for that saw is the 8-pin rim sprocket, (about $6.00 at the dealer and 3 minutes to put on) with the .325 on a 16" bar it rocks.

If you are mainly cutting 15" to 16" and larger stick with the 7-pin, but I see you also have an 034 so I would imagine that saw will be handling the larger duties.

Next step in this addiction is to mod the muffler on the 034
Then its straight to the 046/MS460.

Looks like the 290 is gonna be for sale soon, or you could make it your loaner saw for when friends ask. :D

The 290 is already my loaner saw, and its on its 6th tank of gas...thats kinda bad. i guess I just love those other two saws so much that the 290 ranks at the bottom. Guy offered my 300 bucks for the 026 after trying it today, I said nope, not for sale. Neither is the 034, but I'll sell ya the 290!
