I was just wondering if anyone has had a chance to modify one of the new model 280's from stihl....and what the results were? I know they have'nt been out that long, and I have been wanting to get a modified small saw, but was wondering how a 280 modified would compare to an 026....or a 346xp that had been modified?

Hey Rocky....I did read the dozerdan post.....and was real interested in what you said about the results of your saw.....I've been thinking about a small modified saw for sometime now....and keep up with the posts on them in here all the time.....I am a stihl fan for the most part i guess.....but have considered a 346 for awhile now also....have even talked w/dozerdan about them last fall i guess it was. But i'm still interested in finding out...if i can....how a new ms 280 would turn out if it was modified. Dan told me he likes working on 026's...but felt he got more out of the 346 when modified. So......i was really asking to see if anyone had modified a ms 280....just to see if it would do better than the 026....compared to the 346. I guess nobody has modified a ms 280 to find out yet though.

well i got my 028 cuttin so good that i require family members to bow as they pass.didnt say they did it ,i just require it.got to show respect an all. ill be thinking about this 346 pp so if u get time let me know how u would trade dan. :) later now.

Tony you cant compare your 028's to the 280's. Not the same ballpark.

As far as perf of a modded 280, there is only one way to find out. Dont wait around for someone else to be first, just do it. I doubt it will equal a 346XP, but who knows. How much is a 280 anyways?
