Hi everyone, I'm new here! I got onto this site while looking for info on my old Homelite C-51's. I have 3 and a half of these saws.

I love big old saws and I'm currently considering modifying a couple of Pioneer 600 series saws for fun. These saws are plentiful in NZ and cheap, so it's not a problem if I don't get it right. They are piston ported, which I'm told is better to modify. I like cubic inches so I was thinking that these 103cc Pioneers might be a reasonable saw to modify. I was thinking of shaving the base of the cylinder or planing the head, advancing the timing and doing some porting but would like some advice.

I'm also considering modifying 2 70cc Skil/PM 340 saws. These are a very short-stroke piston-ported saw but don't really rev. One of the saws has only done 1 hour's work in 30 years.

There must be someone out there who's modified these saws! Any ideas of what to do? I'll be doing the work myself - we don't have people who modify saws over here. All comments appreciated :)
