Has anyone one here ever Advertised with Money Mailer coupons? I have an oppuratunity to trade tree work for 50K directly Mailed advertisement in selected areas. :Monkey:

Fine if you like low-balling price shopping customers and of course those looking for FREE estimates (and nothing more)...
When you start getting calls when the first thing they ask is "do you give free estimates"... then you're gonna be wasting a lot of time... and whatever you do, don't put "free estimates" in any kind of ad!

We use a similar type of mailing book, works great but....you have to be in it for a little while before people start to call. I wouldn't trade for less than a couple repeat mailings to the same addresses. Personally I wouldn't trade at all, just pay each other that way noones being jacked up.
Sure there's going to be shoppers, all advertising is going to bring them, prequalify if you can. Unreal how many calls I get from people expecting you to come out and look at a <$100 job
Alot of calls seem to be dead ends where when I get the message and call them back, if I don't reach them and have to leave a message I never hear from them again. I think seeing a coupon has an effect on people and jogs their memory to get that job done but then they forget about it again after calling?

Well The coupons came out Monday! Ive Picked up about 8K worth of work so far and still have Several calls too return.   I'd Have to Say This advertising is a Big Bang for the Buck!

I was very suprised Out of 10 estimates i did today i got 7 jobs on the spot and 2 called back within 2 hr's the other had to check with there homeowners association.
Unbelievable!

Maybe it's the new avatar. Did you tell them you're a moderator for AS? Have you put it on your business card or resume yet?

If you are not hearing the NO word in 10 bids on new customers, me thinks you are bidding too low. I rarely have people tell me no, but currently 100% of my business is repeat and referrals.

I firmly beleive ours is a craftsman industry and any sort of coupon, discount etc is a self inflicted wound. Save the specials for the window guys and pizza delivery.

Unbelieveable that you think that is a good sign.

It is just a sign you are bidding too low. ;)

Hey! If i'm getting my hourly Rate + Who Cares? :D

It's a sign as to how good of a salesman he is.

I find that if i can get face to dface witha person it will at least double my closing percentage, his timing could ahev had something to do with it.

I've been with a realtors "consierge" service for over a year now and it has paid for more then what I put into it. THey wanted $500 up front and 12% of completed jobs, I negitiated the up front down and the 12% to be of net, not gross. This year I'm paying $75 renewall fees too.

We get a lot of shoppers, especially on the big removals, but that's just a fact of life. My favorite is like Todd's "remove one bush in front."

Just an update Ive picked up 25K In work from these coupons and the new ones will Hit Tuesday.

If am a home owner and received a flier from a tree care service in the mail, that may make for some good reading but what would my incentive be to call them? I think with this coupon idea inside well put together flier would give people that little incentive that they may need to pick up the phone & call. It would be interesting to see just how many people would have called you if you just mailed out your fliers and no coupons! Maybe for our benefit you could ask some of your new customers that question and let us know what they say. :blob2: HC

The Coupons are Nill, But since Money mailer is Coupon Based I had to include Coupons.
None of the customers Actually redeemed them Just a way to get my Name out in selected areas. THese were not Flyers they were Full color Ads.

Hmmmmm I havent Done any Jobs as little as 700.00 :) I always give Senoirs an Added discount because I'd much rather work for senoirs than 30 something yuppies. And This add has work quiet well. I Guess I could have Advertised Topping and talked them into a prune as i usually do but I couldnt bring myself too. O and advertising a certified arborist would have been unethical because as of yet i havent had the time to get certified it doesnt mean i do not Have the same tree ethics as a crertified arborist though. Got a call Friday from a Large bank chain here From these "Hack Coupons" to give them a tree analysis for there 50 Branches locally. The Branch maintenance manager Picked up a coupon we had a nice 1 hr conversation. :)

The Bank manager is an idiot if he's seeking advice on trees at 50 locations and is not seeking the advice of a certified arborist. Does each location get to cash in a coupon? I'd nail you with the coupons afterward.....50 of them.

Dan

Those will all be retail I wouldnt care if he redeemed them...... :) He is seeking
35 removals. :blob5: Your oppinion is yours but this advertising has kept me a 6 week backlog since they came out. Wheres as this time of the yr is usually slow......

Murph, what do you say when someone calls and asks if you give free estimates? Me, I know I lose business but I try and screen folks. I recently picked up a good job, though, because I told the lady in no uncertain terms that I wasn't interested in driving 40 miles to be the low price. I told her what I could do for her, how much I charge on average and if she could live with that I would meet her and do what I could. Turned out good. She kept me on the phone for an hour asking all sorts of questions (guess she screened me too), agreed to a general ballpark, we met and have a good working relationship. Not always easy, though, cause some people just want you to show up and meet them for the free estimate but aren't necessarily looking for the lowball. Haven't found a way to screen effectively but I try. I shudder to think how many people I must turn off with the questions..
