What sort of questions were you asking?

What does it cost to get in these money mailer coupons????Is it based on how many areas or a monthly gig?

Yup, Go to moneymailer.com and see if you have a local Rep....

if anyone in SE PA or NJ wants to give them a try, the local rep is in my business networking group.

Good for you DDM.. I dont see why TreeCo is giving you such a hard time.. Its obvious it has worked well for you.. And being in business is all about the money... Some want to deny it; but we all have bills to pay, and we all want better things than we have now.. Thats why we work..
You do what you have to do to make money, and if the mailer coupons are working for you in your area, congratulations! Thats business, sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose.. As long as you do quality work, then it doesnt matter whats behind your name or on your card. Good work, and not sh*t work is the difference between a pro and a hack.

have fun, and enjoy the $$$$...

Get certified and cut the lame excuse that you haven't got the time. It doesn't take hardly any time.......unless of course you are counting time to study for the test. The test is very easy if you know just a little about trees.

Do you think passing a test you, admit is easy, is going to make someone a better arborist? I doubt it. It's personal integrity, doing the right thing. DDM may be a terrific arborist. Its short sighted to judge DDM or the bank manager as an idiot for getting an estimate from someone he feels comfortable with. Also, People have to make a living, they have to start somewhere. It seems to me that there is a there are a lot of threads posted where guys starting out are knocked or flamed, and it seems its all about having a leg up on the competition.

O Well.... I responded to a call from one of these Coupons today and for the O I forget the count now talked the homeowner out of a topping job and into a thinning prune. Which by the way the previous Estimate for the TOPPING was from a company that has certified arborists on board. I guess pasing the test didnt impact there judgement.

Amen brother! I put up signs in my area . . . Trees cut from $139. My average job is $1200. My phone rings everyday. Bills are paid, wife is happy, kids are fed, wife is happy, employees are paid, wife is happy, customers are satisfied, and . . oh yeah. . . . wife is happy!
I don't even pretend to be an expert aborist( or even a junior aborist ), but I absolutely love what I do. I know I have alot more to learn still. I have met a few other guys in the tree business here, and they have been a great help. The sun doesn't come up quick enough for me. Each day is a different tree, different scenerio, different customer, different need.
This site had been an inspiration to me. So what if we all don't agree or see eye to eye with each other on every issue. Who would want to belong to a forum where everyone thought the same? We're here to learn from each other. This is not the place to take anything personal. I have learned more about myself from those who have been critical towards me, even though it has been a bitter pill to swallow, sometimes. Well, I guess that's enough rambling, now . . . . *stepping off the soap box*.

Good idea meng. Don't let people get down on you for thinking outside the box. Just because nobody else does it isn't a reason not to do something, in fact I'd say its a ???? good reason for doing something. If you can get your name out somewhere that nobody else is then you are the only person the people that see those sources will know about. I'm sending out 15,000 mailers over the next month and I'm offering a discount (it was going to be a percentage, but I like your idea better) does that make me a hack, no it just makes me a younger company that is agressively expanding my client base. If I have to give a little now to make more later then so be it.

I missed this thread when it started, but I use mailer magazines w/ coupons too. For a new biz it's a great way to go. The first one I advertised in went out to 100,000 people for $350.00. Came out every other month. Another one I advertised in came out the opposite months. Both are 1/2 page full color and both go to 100,000 people in my area. Yes they do produce many "do you give free estimate calls," but for a new company it's great exposure and name recognition. A lot of people thumb through these things and whether they call or not they see your name. I was scared of the yellow page annual contracts my first 2 yrs in biz. Money mailer coupon mags are billed monthly. If it doesn't work, bag it. I find that my expensive yellow page ad produces a butt load of calls, but every caller has called atleast 2 others. I waste more time now giving bids from price shopping yellow page viewers than I ever did when I only advertised in money mailer coupon books. Out of about 50 "tree services" in my area I'm the only one utilizing these books. That's good name recognition. They got my biz up and running and kept me busy. The more work you do, the more work you get, the less you advertise. Going into my third year of biz, now I am scaling back the creative advertising. Who knows, maybe in ten more years I can pull my y.p. ad.
Lay off DDM :dizzy:
