My 86 bandit 200 engine is fried i was looking at replacing with a 94 morbak 13 or 17. Any comments on these machines

I have a friend with a 13 and I have a 17. They both have the cummins engine and are both really good machines. Unless you are going to be chipping really big stuff all the time I would go with the 13. It is lighter and has almost the same size feed.

Like the 13.

The 13 has better resale value. But the earlier ones had a clogging problem.
The design of the chip chute was all wrong and they don't through chips well so they tend to clog when they are not sharp enough or you feed them stringy material. I don't know it the 17 has the same problem.
There are very few 17 out here, mostly 13 and they are easy to sell.

I would go with a 13. I have a 13 and a friend of mine has a 17 so I use both on a regular basis. Both of ours have the same engine. Only time the 17 is better is when we're doing a big pine or cottonwood where we want to chip everything that will fit in the chipper.

I agree with the previous comments. Both good machines. A little outdated and crude, but they chip quite well except for the small (stringy) stuff. We have a 17" at my work, it is a beast for chipping logs, but is horrible for scrubby brush. Ours has the perkins diesel and it seems to run pretty good. We have a 13" too that we never use.......and I think it is for sale....Needs work though.....
