Hey guys looking for a little input from anyone running a morbark 290. We are having issues with these dead ash trees, they shatter somewhat when feeding and the dead chunks plig up and stop the feed wheels now and then. Sharp knives and proper anvil adjustment helps suck stuff through but still having some issues. I read somewhere to run with the belly pan open. Makes sense maybe those small chunks will just fall out the bottom instead of coming around the underside of the bottom wheel and plugging it up. Will have to keep the scoop shovel handy as you go im sure. Anyone on here do it? Thanks in advance and i apologize if this is in the wrong forum.

We have been running Morbarks for the last 20 years. Yes, leave the belly pan open. The only time we close it is when we are on the road. If it becomes too hard to line up the holes to open or shut it, just leave it open all the time, just make sure your machine is not going to drop debris on the road while transporting it.

It was a beautiful day!

I have a 290. I have this problem with dead ash, maple, oak as well. Leaving the rock trap open does help, but the small chunks will still jam the front of the bottom feed wheel.
Just moving the control bar back and forth a lot to reverse and clear the jammed wheels is all I do.
I also keep a rectangle plastic tub underneath the trap and empty it into the truck when it's full, this keeps the debris from piling up under the feed wheels. Kind of a pain, but seems to help.
Luckily, theres almost no EAB left around here anymore.
Good Luck.

Thanks wmtreeco. Thats what we do is reverse a bit back n forth and it works fine. Weve been going after eab trees here for 3-4yrs now, there are still plenty left arghhh. All tree companies are swamped here. Did a double chinese elm removal last wk for a lady, she said she had tried calling 4 companies prior to us and my voicemail box was the 1st 1 that wasnt full LOL. It is definitely a challenge to be on the job all day, then have to make calls in the evening to set up appointments for quotes, do invoices, keep machinery running and saws sharp. And leave time and energy for the wife and kids.:dizzy:
