1. What is the purpose of the sprocket in the nose of some bars? What does it do? Does it give an advantage?

2. What is the meaning of "full comp chain"?

Thanks again.

I think!

The sprocket at the end of the bar supposedly creates less friction. Also it's another gear that will also help keep chain aligned better.(gear on each end).Full comp chain is basically your normal chain, one cutter after each other.Skip chain has a bigger space between cutters.Allows you to use a bigger bar with less friction, and less HP needed.Skip chain on a bigger bar will cut a little slower but it will allow you to use that larger bar.

Actually, one non-cutter tie-strap between each cutter.
Skip will have two, and semi-skip will alternate between one and two.

Skip has about 66% the cutters of a regular (full comp) chain, and semi-skip about 75%, exact numbers depening on drive link count.

In a full house chain, every tie strap will be a cutter.
