After porting my 028 super with the degree wheel mounted to the clutch drum I decided that I needed a better way to mount my degree wheel. A few days later, while putting up tools in the shop I started cleaning off the workbench and throwing old unused items in the scrap bin. As I picked up a broken clutch and a few lug nuts I had an epiphany. What if I could do some minor fab work and have a solid mount which would thread onto the crankshaft in place of the clutch? The next day I started the "fab" work; what I ended up cobbling together actually works pretty good so I thought I would share. Most of the members here probably have all of the items that I used.

To start with you need a clutch assembly that will fit your saw, or in my case a busted clutch assembly. The threads on the Stihl crankshafts and the new Dolmar crankshafts are the same so you can use one mount for several saws. (The old Sachs-Dolmar saws use different threads and I am sure that a few of the other manufacturers use entirely different thread pitch on the clutch side)
I just so happened to have a broken clutch assembly off of an old Stihl and an old Dolmar laying around. I also had a few deep lug nuts sitting in the junk pile. Figuring I could coble the lugnuts to the old busted clutches I started looking for something with the same thread pitch to fit inside the lug nuts. Wouldn't you know, junky old champion spark plugs do the trick.

The clutches(after a little grinding), the junky Champion spark plug, my homemade degree wheel and a lug nut. Ready to be married

You have to remove the clutch though ............
You don't have an old drill chuck laying around ?

I didnt have an old drill chuck laying around but I assume with a drill chuck setup I would still have to remove outboard clutches to mount my degree wheel?

A chuck will also grab the shaft at the flywheel side without pulling the flywheel

I prefer to remove the flywheel anyway. It takes away the effect of the magnet when trying to precisely move it.
