Walked out of my house on the way to work this morning. Saw an Asplundh truck doing some line clearance for the city. Didn't think anything of it.

My wife walks out sometime later on her way to work. She emails to say the groundie managing the traffic took the opportunity to express his sexually explicit adoration for her.

I can see someone taking a casual look-over, but I don't tolerate anyone on my job yelling anything like that to anyone. What a jerk. It's not good for Asplundh, and it's an implicit indictment for all of us.

I'd call Asplundh and let em know. This guy needs a lesson on when its not O.K. to be an idiot like being on the job.

What is said amongst the crew out of earshot is one thing. If your wife heard it, there is definetely an issue that needs to be addressed.

Call the boss or let it go. Karma has its way of sorting things out. Losers who say things like that say them just because they couldn't get a wet nose from a hungry dog, much less get a woman.

Time wounds all heels.......

Oh, i guess Nate said that already!

But, it doesn't wash; and if i saw the same crew on street the next day i would have to mention it to foreman/leadman; and (s)he'd have to take it seriously for the conversation to end at that level. If there happened to be any children around; my enthusiasm would be compounded to letting someone know, that is not the accepted status quo at this time, nor to be perpetuated by example; not on my watch!

That's a good one!

Definitely report it. Either the guy is slug, and needs to get his wrist slapped (or face if your wife had felt so inclined)....or....he's just a young pup in need of some socialization. Any way it goes, he needs to be called on it, and your wife deserves an apology. If not from him, then from a representative from Asplundh.

Luckily, this type of behavior isn't as common place as it was a couple decades ago. It can be unnerving and really screw up an otherwise good day.

I had such a different experience today. There was a crew down on the road this morning taking down a large locust. I was on my morning walk and cut it short to go beg for chips. The chips were spoken for unfortunately, but as I was about to ask, the foreman walked up and asked if I wanted the firewood. All very pleasant and polite. They cut it all into 18-20" lengths and dumped it exactly where I asked.

That's a typical woman for you.  On the one hand decrying the verbal notice of a young buck, but on the other going over to a crew and flashing a cute little smile to get a load of free firewood delivered.

If you'd have shown him your ankle, Che, he probably would've had the boys split and stack the firewood for you, too!

Hahaha!

I still don't understand how a woman can go to great lengths to make her self attractive by dressing provacatively, wearing make-up and the like, and then the SAME woman will freak if she gets a whistle.

(Not to say this is the case, I meant generally speaking.)

Kinda like the chick on Springer who had lipo, facelift, breast enlargement, makeup tattoos, nose job; and then talks about finding a "real" man???

HAHAHAHAHA

i would not tolerate that kind of talk from my staff,i'm afraid he'd be fired if he worked for me :(

I've been on a job and had it happen the other way around. Two young college girls in a SUV sreamed some obsenities of what they wanted to do to us. I was standing alone with my boss not knowing what to think and before I knew it he throwing fists yelling yoohoo yeah. I couldn't believe it. And think if I was to respond like that.

the good news is asplundh usually works in the same area so im sure you can find this guy and express your concerns to the foreman personnally. it is one thing to admire asomething amongst the crew, quite another to be lude about it.

Definitly a phone call to the office is in order in my opinion, while it may be common for crew to talk among themselves about a particular situation when it becomes public knowledge it makes the whole crew and profession look bad.

i guess the point of respectin'wimmens on site here or there is kinda mute whenst one that has been quietly reading for sometime steps forward to lend perhaps light from an angle not seen by the rest of us, and immediately gets rebuked and let known she is not part of the boyz club; as she stands alone.

i would hope that knowing that one or more Ladies was around reading quietly would sponsor similar amount of respect that original author wished for his own wife/mother/daughter to remain on topic.....

Guess i'm from a different planet!
:alien:

You must be.  I didn't rebuke anybody; I made them laugh, right Che (et al)?

Glen

Me, KC? I'm not offended. I think the opinions posted are for the most part the same.....the guy was out of line. I'm not in the club? :(

Women deal with that kind of crap all the time. Everyone deals with it in their own way. Best way is to just consider the source and try not to get rattled...hard to do sometimes though.

Glen, my ankles WERE showing...and amazingly they STILL gave me the locust! And....I DID ask if they'd split it for me, all I got was a laugh. :D (the driver told me how easy it is to split, and as I've never had the pleasure of splitting green locust, I went out and filled a wheelbarrow quickly.)

I don't where you read all that into this thread spidey. I am reluctantly gonna have to agree w/ glen.;) A good natured laugh I thought.

MAYBE Che doesn't need a man to stand up for her, tough guy.:D
