Sometimes I struggle with moving around and down a tree with a block and sling. (usually a 2 ton CMI pulley and whatever approiate sling) Every place I hang it from my saddle it seems to be in my way for my next set up. Any suggestions on how to move a pulley down and around a tree effeciently when removing (& sometimes trimming) a tree?

Biker:

As long as the spar ain't too big, I've found my favourite (sp. for you Brits, Aussies, etc.) piece is a Loopie sling. Check it out in the Sherill catalogue. Set it up just like their illustration on page 68 (2004 catalog [American sp.], and keep adjusting it as the spar gets fatter. Greatest thing in the whole wide world (including even Scotlant) for blocking down a spar!

I love the loopie too, you can wear it bandoleer style when moving around to reset. I use the 2 ton spring blocks (ICS?)

Another thing I've done is use a stitched web daisy chain for a sling and pulley rack, again worn like a bandoleer.

I agree with JPS, I wear my loopie sling and 2 ton block around my chest Bandoleer style with the sling over my right shoulder and the block under my left arm. If Im not roping down big chunks I use the CMI stitched loop runners that I keep in an old ammo pouch on my saddle since the have a tendency to hang up on every little stub if you just hand them on your saddle on a biner

I clit on the left side of my saddle, that helps ofset the weight of the saw on my right. If that dosent work, then do what John said, or go one further and use a wall rack from Black Diamond, or A5. And the real struggle is moving a 1inch Crosby block.

i do what wiley said, wear on my left to counter the saw weight. spikes, big saw, blocks... removals are often uncomfortable for mewith all the gear. i never really thought about it and just try to get it done and get back to terra firma.

I've never done it myself, but have seen some old timers (oop's I'm a relative old timer myself) do it instead of useing a pulley, make a couple notches in the tree and use a marl as there false crotch. Rope on rope friction with no control whatsoever. not to mention takeing wraps around a tree instead of a friction device. We've come a long way baby...

With my new loopie slings I just carry them like these guys say. While I was using my spliced eye slings, I wanted to get one of those non-locking ladder snaps. Like that I could just make a simple knot and carry it around on the snap.

Does anybody know where I can find a non-locking ladder snap now? Everywhere I look they just have the locking ones.

Here's one I learned from Big Jon and included in the tricks of the trade presentation at the ISA conference last summer.

Bull line gets tied off with a slip knot and run up to the block to reduce weight, then eye of the sling gets clipped to an accesory biner on the saddle... quick and easy...
