This is the restricter from the inside of the muffler on my MS 660

Wrong, it should read '' This was the restricter from inside '' as it is all scrap now.

I cant see how they think that helps the saw holding all that heat in

And just wait 'til you get to run it. I removed the baffle and screen from mine and opened the exit hole and the power increase was very noticable. Sounds nice too.

I put a ported front cover on it also I have done this mod to alot of saws over the years and it make them run real good

Stihl does seem to make different mufflers for different regions. I havenot had a 660 yet with that baffle in the muffler now they took the dual port cover off the saws here but I think the new 660's here are still old stock , maybe once I start working on saws from 2005 it will be on them

yep, that looks like my 066 after i hacked and chopped it out. i'd like to know how simonizer got a plasma cutter in there when its so tight. that was the biggest problem on mine, thats why i had to chop it out in pieces with a die grinder and cutoff wheel like macdaddy. for what its worth, an easier way is to drill out all the spot welds, then mig or tig the holes shut. i did this for a friend, and it was a piece of cake.

Question !?!?

How do you guys gut out 346xp muffler ???
i have one from walkers thats clean inside, now want to clean out my own the original muffler that came with the saw !!!

I cut the end out of the primary baffle chamber and left the Swiss cheese perforated tunnel in place....and ported the cover. Would removing the remainder of the baffle tunnel make any difference?
