I have an 880 that came in. Low hours, and in nice shape. He said it wont oil. I took it aprt and the spur gear ( 1124 640 7512 ) was heated up so much that the two pieces melted in half, and there was a bnch of metal shavngs in the area also. I havent tracked down the metal shavings yet. I tok everything apart and put in a new spur gear hoping this would fix the problem but still no oil. I blew air into the small holes bebind the oiler with my pressure tester and oil came spewing out of the opposite hole but not from the oi hole up top......

Any ideas? I am trying to fix this one cheap for the guy. As a new pump is 111.00.

If the spur gear was melted, that heat had to come from somwhere. Is the clutch drum burnt up or did it come from the pump overheating?

You need to take the pump apart and make sure the metal didn't come from inside... The pump is really simple and it generally with works or it doesn't, and if it doesn't, it's obvious what's wrong by inpection. Use the Stihl otoscope to check inside.

Like Andy said, check the clutch drum. Maybe he was running with the brake on = metal shavings (perhaps) and heat (definitely).

Took the oiler apart tooday and one of the pieces (forget the name now) was all tatterdd and the inside was cobvered in shavings.

Thanks Guys.
