A buddy gave me his one year old MS170 to look at, he said it "wasn't running right". I put some new gas in it and took it to the wood pile for a test run, it started fine and run OK for a few minutes then started to power out, no acceleration, then die. There are no adjustments, other than idle speed, on this saw. I took the fuel cap off to check the filter and when I started it up it ran fine for a few minutes then like before. I found that I can take the fuel cap loose when it acts up and it will run fine for a short time until I have to take it loose again. I am sure the fuel tank vent is plugged, where is it at on this saw? I see the fuel line coming out of the top of the tank going to the carb. Thanks for the help.

I think on that saw its kind of hidden behind the pull start cover. Its a flat valve no hose on it . Near the fuel line to the carb. Give that a try if not someone will be by with a better directions.
