Bought two new saws this week, MS241c and 150T(ordered). ‎The replace a 200T and 346.

Came with picco PS, and a 7T rim with 16 bar, 55dl, spare chain they threw in was 56DL.
I want a 14 bar and chain, will the 50dl fit the 241 with a 7T rim, or does an extra DL need to be added? I don't really want a 6t spur.

I'm pretty sure you will need the extra drive link with a 7t picco rim. I believe I did on my 211 when I put the rim kit on it.

Hi,
If 16" bar works with 55dl it will work with 14" bar & 50dl. I have 023 with 3005 000 4809 / 14"bar and 7T sprocket and 50dl fits fine. And 51dl is pretty hard to find in factory made loops...

You'll love that 2 saw combo... why don't you want a 6t? I'd like a 6t rim but I'm stuck with the spur. I run a 55dl with 6t spur and does well. Get about a year out of the spur though...

Those so called 16" bars really are about 14 1/2", and the 14" ones are just under 13. It you want a true 14" bar, you already are as close as you can get.

For some odd reason it "always" is (about) that way with small mount (Stihl 3005 in this case) 3/8" Picco/lo-pro bars - unless it is a Cannon bar (like Cannon SuperMini). The Cannons are that way as well in some lengths (like 14"), but usually not. There may be other exceptions as well, that I don't know of.

I tried to fit a 50dl on mine with the 7t , would not fit .
My dealer stocks both the 50dl and the 51dl .

If you upgrade to the picco rim kit you will need to add a drive link if you use a stihl bar...i made myself half nuts tryin different things with my 241s.

I tried a few GB and oregon bars and the standard DL count of 55 on a 16" worked...so far only with the stihl bar you NEED to add a drivelink.

Your bar may be different to account for the dl count, they swap out the factory 14" for a 16" on this side of the pond and sell it replacement 14" bar if you want the short bar .

Hello Guys and thanks for the replies and info.

Yes, It's looking like i'll need an extra DL when running a rim on this saw with a stihl bar, no problem for me, but can see the frustration a consumer would have with an uneducated dealer.

Troll, even less, 14 inches from tip of the spike to the top plate (on this model). Yep, still want to go shorter, lighter, nimbler.

Pro94lt, cheers, I'm liking this saw, but wont judge its power until I get more run time. Guess I see a rim to a spur a downgrade, but there's no sound logic to it, I'll try it out though. My 200T had one bar nut, plastic clutch cover, and a spur sprocket. I see this saw as a better alternative to a 201 rear handle, rather than a 50cc saw. For softwood, I like the 7pin, I had my 346 on an 8pin and liked the chain speed. Most of my aerial work is pruning and done with a zubat, jameson poles and the 200T, that combo is slow for pruning work.

Dancan, I'm in Halifax, where are you? I remember seeing you posts and praises for the PS-421 bunch of years ago.

Next questions for you guys, obviously you need an extra DL when running a 7pin rim, however, is there enough room in the adjuster to run the extra DL (56DL, 51DL) with the 6T spur?

Thanks again.

No problem running 51dl with the 6t spur .
I've not played with the 421 , only the 241 LOL

Dancan.. my bad, getting my NS arboristsite members‎ confused... our spruce, hemlock and fir isn't that big, but lots of 1-3 limbs, that's were I'm thinking this 241 is going to show up.
Good stuff on the 51DL, and 6t spur... who's your dealer that stocks 51DL. ‎

Cheers, maybe we'll cross paths.

Love the Ryobi stickers!! Think I'll find some princess auto "power fist"‎ ones for mine!! Looking good out there..

I think we're getting some associated hurricane Matthew weather today. Hoping for some clean up work!

I'll swing by GD when I'm down that way, I usually deal with Bay in Sackville‎ or Eastern turf, they know my name there. You run PS or PM?

51 drive links for the 7pin with a 14" bar , 50 dl will polly fit if you use the 6t spur .
I run the 14" with the spur , I like it better than the 7 pin .

That may well be the case, the theoretical probability is about 50% with a one "pin" difference (the chain rides on halv the sprocket circumference) - but the exact bar is a factor as well, and it could go both ways depending on the bar. Not all chain tensioners have the same "range" either - and there is yet another factor, in reality the tensioner reduces that probability to well under 50% for a one "pin" difference.

In many cases the operator actually can use two different dl counts (one dl apart) with one set of bar and sprocket, and can decide if he wants the bar to end up relatively close to the sprocket, or further forward. Of course this will be more common with a shorter pitch than with a longer one (like .325 vs any kind of 3/8").
This can be taken further, into discussing what is most suitable with a "K" vs. an "A" tail on the bar - but I'm not going there...
