i was suprised today..i took the front of the muffler off of my ms260...the inside of the face has one hole, so i put one on each side of it the same size, on the outside of the cover i went through the ventilated shield and put three holes through the existing piece into the lil flap which prevented the exhaust from having a clear shot out...after i put the spark arrestor back in and started her up i did notice a decent power increase through some 14 or so inch firewood.........i didn't know it was that easy, and it didn't take me long, i'm gonna have a bud check it out and see if he suggests a little carb adjustment...when comparing the work to dual port mufflers which i have attained, i would say my job in no way uses the same as 60% of the sum of the two ports............................i'm gonna cut up the muffler on my old drippin 041, just for giggles..................guff:blob2:

i thought for a sec, i guess by adding two holes, by the one, not including the outside "cover", which i opened straight out, by adding more holes, i think i increased the exhaust port by???lets see, one hole plus 2 more..equally spaced and the same size....is???? guff

You might do better leaving that 041 muffler alone.  I certainly would recommend against it unless you experiment with a spare.  That saw was built before the EPA and OSHA decided to butt in (in our best interest, of course).

You increased the exhaust outlet by 200%. The exhaust port is the actual oblong hole thru the cylinder that opens into the muffler. I don't know the area of it having never been in an 026, but you can bet it's a lot more than the original exhaust outlet.
