MS290 parts chainsaw. Worth...???

I have a brand new MS310.
Just found a guy near me with an MS290 for sale as a parts saw.
Heres what he says...

"This unit decided to grenade within the first 5 minutes of running saw right after bought brand new. Stihl warrantied entire unit and let me have it. The only thing it needs is a piston/cylinder kit.
$50.00 "

Is this a good deal?
Seems so.
Will all the parts except the jug and piston and related parts fit my 310?
Would a stihl dealer let him have the saw?
That part sounds fishy to me!
I'm in the PNW, so what do you stihl dealer/mechaincs out here think?
