Hi, tearing down an ms291 needs rings and probably piston. Need to check out the cylinder. I searched but couldn't find any rebuild videos. I have done a bunch of 250's, 290's, etc but never a 291. I appreciate any help. Thanks
The ms271 is the same saw, I have been planning on doing a video.Hi, tearing down an ms291 needs rings and probably piston. Need to check out the cylinder. I searched but couldn't find any rebuild videos. I have done a bunch of 250's, 290's, etc but never a 291. I appreciate any help. Thanks
Yeah I always say I'm not a fan of the xx1 series saws. I'll just look at it as a learning opportunity. If the cylinder is screwed up I'll just sell the parts. I don't think there is any good option for the cylinder other than oem.The ms271 is the same saw, I have been planning on doing a video.
The saw is a pain at first.
Yes, I said "many parts". I did not say all parts. Heck, HarleyT, lots of machine screws and a bunch of other hardware items match up. But, it is rather amazing how much was changed. The 029 and 290 have much more in common. The 291 is cut from a different cloth from the 290. I bought three major parts in December from a Stihl dealer for a 291. He sold me 290 parts but none would fit Needless to say, he was embarrassed after I brought them all back. The sprocket bearing and bar nuts are pretty much what all the ms290 shares in common with it.
I cannot think of one thing that interchanges, maybe the fuel filter and plug. The ms271 and ms291 are almost identical, except for the piston size.Yes, I said "many parts". I did not say all parts.
