Howdy,
I picked up a worn out MS360 Pro off Craigslist. I plan on using it for my CSM I will be building once my piston kit comes in and I replace the seals.

If milling is something I enjoy, I'll eventually upgrade to a bigger saw, but for now, I'll play with what I have.

We've got mostly Elm, Ash and Oak around my property. I'll be building a bar for my new house, and would like to mill a single piece for a bar top, as well as other smaller table tops. I have trees of all sizes available to me.

What are the limitations of my 62cc saw when it comes to milling?

Appreciate it gents!
Bryce

Don't mill with a bar bigger than 18". That saw is waaay small for milling hardwoods.

Milling and stumping are the two hardest things on a chainsaw, and ask the most of them.

My guess is that your 360 will be barely powerful enough when asked to do any wide cuts in those hardwoods.

I have done a very small amount of freehand milling with 60cc saws and it is painfully slow going in cuts 12" or more in width. I was cutting 8 by 8 timbers out of approx 12-16" aspen.

I would advise keeping the chain super sharp, set the oiler to max, and keep the carb tuned rich. Do not force the cuts, and be patient.

Good luck with it. I hope it works for you!

Thank you, exactly the information I was looking for.

I've got an 18" B&C for my 026, and I'm assuming it will fit my 360P.

This is good news though, it gives me an excuse to buy another saw. :msp_biggrin:

Check some of my older posts.
My milling began here when I won the 62CC JD.
It would do up to 14", red maple ,beyond that it bogged.
It's not just the size of your bar,
It's how deep you stick it in and what you do with it.

Least that's what she said

I found a new o36 pro cylinder kit this after noon in my tool box , wish i had found it sooner . Built a mill that has 27'' between the uprights and running a 460 with a baileys big bore cyl runs great but needs a bigger clutch for oak . new one is blue after 3hr . Just need a big saw to saw big wood .

Yes, it allows the saw to cool down a bit. It keeps the saw from being at max operating temp for extended periods of time.

Which is also why it's recommended to run the saw a bit richer than normal.

I might be wrong here, but isn't the 360 a 59.0cc saw?

Doesn't matter, just take it easy and enjoy milling some slabs!!!!

does the ideling help the saw stay cool?

Yes run a few feet let it idle a couple min's. Just really take some time. Clean air filter sharp chains. I mini milled 27 foot 6 in thick this weekend with a 192 t...lol

Nice! I think I'll pass on trying with my MS180 :msp_wink:

Hopefully my 360 piston comes in today, maybe tomorrow. I can't wait to run this thing! Then it's time to start building my mill.

Mini mill I use after I have my slabs. So cutting 2x4 or 6x6 things like that. The narrow kerf of the 180 would do fine. Again just take extra time. I have a 460 I could have used......

Smokinj wins for having the smallest milling saw ever... : )

Thank You Thank You very much! I also have one of the largest. lol I decide to use the 192t because those cant's where just that close to finishing what I needed, so yes even a 30cc saw can do it! lol
