My neighbor picked up a MS390. It looks a little rough but it will be a good saw. One of the bar studs is stripped. I unscrewed both to inspect and replace. The rear one is longer and appears to have been sealed with RTV. Is this the protocol when replacing them?

Other than a fresh sprocket and the nylon chain guides, he should be good to go.

I have finished op the restoration of some Disston/Mercury saws. I have some spare parts if anyone is looking. I had a parts donor saw that still has salvage value.

If the case is stripped, there is a specific oversized repair stud to use. If not, just buy the correct stud and put it at the specified torque with a stud clamping socket.

Front - 16NM
Rear 30MN, and loctite 243

Bob, what model Disston Mercury parts do you have? I have a DA-211 that I need a Gas Cap, Side Cover and possibly a helper handle for the end. I have a friend that said he was getting one in but as of the last time I spoke with him, he had not received it. But it is the one without the reservoir, its just a handle. I do not know what all is interchangeable with the Disstons if anything is. I would be willing to trade the MS 390 parts for them if I have the parts you need.

Curt,
My parts are DA-211, 2 cylinder Keikafer engine units. I have a broken fuel cap and needed a replacement for my saw. I bought one at http://www.oldmercs.com/external.html
Item number 36-23338A1.

Usually you need replacement ignition coils. These guys helped me out;

As far as a helper handle, I'm sorry that I cannot help. Which side cover do you need?
