Well, I'll pay up to 875-900 for a new 440, plan on buying at least two, five years from know there will be people beechen wishing they had bought a couple.

Ya know the more I think about it the more I think your right. It would be worth gettin I guess as it is a legend and all and wont be around much longer.

Back to the topic at hand......................440's were 749.00 at the end of their run around here. New price as reported seems a bit difficult to swallow. On the other hand, 460's are 979.00 last I checked. I'll be curious to see what the price comes out to around here. If they're 850.00ish, I'll buy 2 or 3. Any more than 850 will be a titch too much - Sam

For a ms 460 the local dealers here want $1039 for wrap bars with a 25" bar. The same saw in December was $925. Has magnesium gone up that much or has the dollar fallen that much?

It's amazing saws have gotten this high!

####ing fallers wages certainly have not kept pace with saw prices.....a bit depressing when you have no choice but to buy new saws as necessary. It would be nice if the price of a saw was directly linked to the national average of 1,000 BF of timber.......they'd be cheap as hell

A grand in today's worthless dollars, might not have gotten you a long bar and chain for a 125 back in the '70s, let alone the powerhead. I seem to remember flippin' 16 Franklins on the counter for a 125, with two Cannons, a small box of spares and several yards of sawchain. A PM850 set-up with a 36" and a couple loops was about 5 bills. I don't know what you girls are #####in' about, but then those were real saws, made for the real timber that 95% of you-all will only see in parks, or as waist high stumps.

The old and the new, they both look nice but.

Ya that was a while ago,my brother inlaw kept harrasing me to sell the 440 to him,so i did and then got the 441.
Im sorry i did sell it but know i like the 460 over both of them, about the same weight, more power and torque, just a better gutsyer firewood saw.
I sold my 441 last week a mates been at me to sell it to him, couldnt refuse the amount of money he offered,he realy wonted it.

Oh right, and yeah I agree about the 460 - the extra power makes up for the bit of extra weight.

The price of the 440 is going to discourage a lot of people from picking them up this go round. I thought about getting one to put up. I never ran the new ones that I had.

i priced a new 460 3 weeks ago in town wrap version ,northwest style dual port ,oversize cover ,high output oiler powerhead only was quoted $860 plus tax ,try pricing without bar if have one allready

i do agree with a lot of you why pay that much for the 440 when you can spend a little more and get the 460

My guess is Stihl also think that way. Afterall, just look at their current MSRP line up. If you see a 460 for more than a new 440, I think we know where that extra cost goes to.

The bad thing is a 460 is getting reallly close to the 660 in price. I guess the 440 looks better price wise than the 460. The die hards will pay a little more for the 440 over the 441.

440 441 460

If it came down to buy another new saw i think I would go for a 460 over a 440. Me power is the most important need when I buy a saw, I run a 3' bar alot in my area.A 440 with 3' bar is useless because of the lack of power. The 660 is to much weight to carry for the 3' bar class,The 660 is better suited with a 50" bar
