Finally used, Love the saw.
It is a little strange, power to weight. Really narrow powerband, but for the love of god.
28" Duralite, semi-skip, square ground .. in Silver Maple. Ripping, etc ...

Never thought of them as having a narrow power band. Always thought they were like a 395 and didn’t really matter what rpm they’re turning. Early 462’s had the narrow band for sure

Never really ever considered it has a powerband much different then every other Stihl I have run. Quite a few in fact. Not sure it even matters. From WOT entering a cut to light limbing, when would one even notice, unless it was severe.

BTW, nice looking 500i. The Cannon Superbar looks wicked on it.

Love my 500i so far after running 5 tanks of gas thru it. I added a eagon holeshot to it sounds sick. Definitely a great choice in it weight class.

Mine seems to have a wide power band. It just gets in there and digs. I have seen dyno tests that confirm this.

I was really impressed, sounds good .. it was just strange having a relatively light saw 'c that much power.
Does anyone know if the Fallers in BC are using these?

I have had mine getting close to being pinched. Other saws would have been pinched, but the 500i pulled its way thru. First time I wasn't sure if I was just imagining something, but the 2nd time was confirmation that 500i is a league ahead of the pack.
