Now finally some more pics of actual "getting it done".
The first pic is the saw w/ the 28" mill blade and ripping chain after I trimmed a limb off the tree I felled that I was in in my prior post.
I've put about 3 tanks thru it to that point.
The second pic is after my VERY first mill cut. The cut was about 16" wide, the log is 4', red maple, cut to fit in my FEL, and I took it slow.
The chain required retensioning after the first cut, but was fine for the next two.
By the third cut (third pic) for the second slab I felt I was getting the hang of it and it slid thru pretty easy.
The resulting two slabs (4th pic), each about 14" of good plank inside the bark and curves, and 1.75" thick are the result.
Overall it took about 34 years, most of the time spent growing the tree.
I've been cutting it down, off and on, for two weeks.
Set up for the first cut took about half an hour, mostly trying to think the process thru precisely.
The last cut (remember 4' length) took about 4 or 5 minutes max.

The saw is great. Pulls the ripping chain fine on a 16" cut.

Only slight problem is the muffler - puts the exhaust in my face. Need to put a pipe on it :)
