The AV on the 661 is very smooth and the 661 balances nicely. I've only ran a ported 661 so I really can't comment on the power, but I would assume it to be quite a bit ahead of a stock 660, which were mostly dogs.

With that said, the 660 is one of the more reliable saws you could own. If you really need better AV sure get yourself a 661, if you just want more power port the 660.

They have been problematic but with the new coil upgrade I believe the seizing problem has been helped.

As far as which saw is a better peice of equipment? 660's have cut more timber than all the others combined and will continue to for a long time. It doesn't have great av and the filter is bad but so is the 661's but a 660 will take abuse and still work every day, after a long time in the saw game I'm still amazed at the condition of some that I've seen that were working every day.

It's the increased power and better fuel consumption that is heard of from the 661 that makes it attractive

My 661 is ported but its simillar to my stock big bore kit 660 on fuel
The 661 is way easyer to start,as in put it down for 10 mins with the 660 some times need to use the choke with the 661 MTronic system no probs with that.

The 660 was built like a tank but a dog stock and poor AV...the 661 is a huge improvement over it.

I'd take either and that's part of running a 660 knowing it's gonna tingle the digits. I broke in on my ol man's 066 falling saw so the vibes were part of the deal and learned to live with it. But a 661 would be fun to put to the wood and see what it's got too. If 661 doesn't have near the vibes of 660 that would be nice but again vibes are part of slingin the older ones and would gladly use either one

660 has a slightly bigger clutch than the 661, or should i say wider, and drum too suit.
totally gut and open up the muffler and flog the crap out of it.;)

Had my 661 for a year now, it is superior to the 660 in every way, so smooth and great power...the 660 is a pig in my eyes compared to the 661.
Bonus for me is total lack of vibration, and fuel economy is excellent compared to the 660....sounds like I'm being a tightarse, but now the better fuel economy means I can often ring a whole trunk on one tank, which means less mucking around stopping to refuel etc, as I would have to with the 660. I was dubious about the 661 too, and considered a new 660 instead...man, every time I use the 661 I'm glad I went the new, "electronic" way.
