Just traded my 360 for the new 361. I took the muffler off and while it is a two piece design, the two halves are crimped together. It is the US model with the spark screen. Is there any way to modify this muffler? I had my 360's Walkerized, but it does not look like it would be possible with this one. Would I even need to? Would just taking out the screen be enough?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,
E

Thanks Mike. That's what I wanted to hear. I will get started on it tonight and finish it up tomorrow. I'll let you know how much the performance improves.

There hasn't been much mentioned here about that new saw beyond conjecture.  What are your impressions of it?

I just finished the muffler mod and fired it up. ????! Above and beyond what my 360 was. The anti-vibe is great and the low end power is definately better. The throttle response is much crisper thanks to the new ignition system. I am taking it out tomorrow to break it in. Now I am off to put my 051 back together. It just got a new piston and cylinder.

036 needed help in the low end department, thats for sure. I had one.

After a day of cutting the saw performed fantastic. I am very pleased with it to say the least. Talk about a day and night difference between it and my old 360pro. It was well worth the money.

Nice to hear that you like the saw, esp after muffler mods. This appears to be the first of the quad transfer port Stihl's, as they follow Husky in making better designs that also meet EPA specs more easily.

that sounds scary, Stihltech...even higher than the 346, which seems to run faster at lower rpms than specified, well, modded anyhow.

But my 372 by Madsen's was turning those r's, a few months after I got it. Had them crank it back to spec or just above, 13,500. it was doggy, so i blipped it up some. Ran strong for two more years till the rod bearing came apart, maybe cause I didn't richen it up after I finally opened the muffler. Who knows for sure, the jug is fine....and i got parts for $120 or so, including a used crank from ehp.

Anyone know the suggested retail price for this new saw?

Thanks in advance.
