I've been reading the "DIY muffler mod" thread, there is some very good info and pics. Thank you AS. I've decided on the Walker style 2 tube mod (372XP or 046, haven't decided yet). now my question:

How far into the muffler do the tubes go? and how should I place them in relation to the exhaust port? Is the idea to catch the exhaust charge as it exits the cylinder, or to let the exhaust port dump into the main body of the muffler? Thank you for any info.

no need to have them deep into the body

Just make sure where you mount them, that the muffler can be reattached.Make sure the exhaust is aimed away from any plastic or anything as far as that goes. especially the brake handle

When i did my muffler mod, i went in flush to the inner baffle. It sits a little bit below the exhaust port and had some pretty good results with that.

Your tubes don't need to extend very far into the muffler at all. Point them away from wood, yourself, and any plastic parts on your saw. Make sure you check out Andy's (Lakeside) muffler mod on the 361 that I linked in my DIY Muffler Mod thread. He used some nice spark arrestor screens that I would recommend you use also!

Thanks for the reply guys, I know this topic is discussed a lot on AS, but I could not find pics or a discription of what the tubes should look like inside the muffler.

2 things to remember; you're goals are to increase surface area of the exhaust outlet, and decrease restrictions to flow. Design and build your modded muffler keeping the word "smooth" in mind. You want SMOOTH flowing exhaust!
