Muffler Screens ??

I have been doing my own muffler mods for a few years.I want to start putting spark screens in them.I am curious on what you guys have come up with on ways attaching the screens to a tube type muffler ports.I don't have a spot welder either.

Sheet metal screw and a bent tab. Sometimes just two tabs on the screen and two slots in the muffler. Most times no screen.

That was nice work.I usually take a piece of conduit and grind the galvanized coating off and braze in. http://www.mcmaster.com/ then have a lot of useful stuff.

Makita 6401 Muffler Mod

I did'nt use the two 1/2 pipe ports coming straight out of the muffler like I had previously on the 7900's.Bark burning is a issue that way.On the 6401,I put in one 3/4 pipe port coming out to the left side of the muffler.I drilled out a cap to slide over the pipe&spark screen and used a small self tapping screw to hold the cap/screen.

Nice work, but he killed the flow with the tiny holes and the fact that their all opposed to one another.


Looks nice but probably dosent flow as well as you would think.



I like Johns setup much better.
