I read once that Antonio Stratvarius' success may have been due to certain bacteria that he may have (intentionally or not) treated his spruce flitches to. He apparently soaked his spruce in water for some period of time under wh0-knows-what conditions.

I see that logger exaggeration isn't uniquely American/Canadian
