How long do ropes take to dry out ? I have it hanging outside but don't want to put it back into the rope bag until it's completely dry. Is this how everyone does it when they wash their climbing ropes ?

I just lay mine on the hood of my truck on a bright sunny day as for how long it takes, depends on the outside temp, I suppose you could bring it inside.

I hang mine in the shop for a week if possible. If it is sunny and warm probably only a couple of days outside.

When they get wet I hang them in long loops from the rafters in my garage. Drying time is dependent on the temperature, humidity and how soaked the ropes are. I have a couple of bull ropes, so I usually leave the wet one hanging about a week. Drying time could be less, but I don't check it.

I'd prefer to limit the time they are in the sun. UV is not supposed to be too good for them, however I'm sure to cycle them out before UV degradation would be a problem. Make sure they are dry before you bag them for storage for any length.

I checked it this morning and seem to be drying nice. I'll leave it out for today and take in tonight(snow/rain tomorrow) and hang it in the basement. No worry on needing it too soon because tree work is at a stand still. Thank God for leaves. Thanks for replies

UV is not a big deal if you are just setting it out to dry.

I will set it on concrete or preferably asphalt in the winter and pack it up last.

Wet is not a huge deal with synthetics since all they will do is get musty as mildew feeds on the intrafiber organic contamination.

Wash them as a daisy chain and hang them in the basement, if you have one.

Airflow is a big deal, in some garages they will dry slow.

We lay all our ropes in the shop next to the wood stove when they come back in off the job wet. Nothing sucks more than frozen ropes in the winter! :p

Just a word of caution to all who like to lay em out on the cement or blacktop. DO NOT DRAG THEM at all as will wear very quickly. Take a brand new bull rope out and drag for just about a foot, and then examine. Lotsa little fuzzies. Yea, bummer, been there done that.

It's drying out nicely. Was outside in sun/wind for two days and now hanging from the rafters. Another day or so and it's going back in the bag.
