Quick Preface:

I know how to swap out parts on things but I have never been good at trouble shooting. It just isnt the way my brain works. In spite of that fact...I have spent loads of time trying to become better at being a "mechanic". My barn has about 6 chainsaws and three are in different stages of disrepair. This has been my brief "schooling" on small engines along with reading everything I can on AS whether I understand it or not.

Oh yeah...another very important part of this hobby...I can spend next to nothing on it. I have a 6 month old, a 3 year old, and a 5 year old at home and my awesome wife gave up her career to stay at home with them. So, needless to say, there isnt much spare chainge around.

Saw Update:

I got the saw back together "mostly". By mostly, I mean that there is a "guidance" wire that I could not find a home for. I am not even sure it is the guidance wire but it appears that is what the manual calls it. Still, I fueled it and tried to start it. NOTHING. Not even a burp. I did not change the spark plug but I will get one tomorrow or the next day and see if that does anything.

The most obvious thing was that the air filter was soaked with mix. And there was mix on the plug so I cant help but assume that the saw is getting fuel.

If anyone has any suggestions on a "natural progression" for troubleshooting...I am all ears. There is not much instructional videos of the 056 on Youtube.

Start with the basics. Do you have a way to test the compression? without good compression, you'll waste money on a saw that will never start without repairing the main issue. If you have compression, replace the plug and fuel lines. Even if they're not bad, it's money well spent. If that doesnt get it going, check for spark. Could be as simple as a failed stop switch or shorted wire. I would try dumping a little mix down the throat of the carb to see if she fires. If it fires off of that, pull the carb apart and put a kit in it.

TreeTangler,

I do not have a way to check compression...yet. I am going to take it to the saw shop and see if they would be willing to do a compression check for me. I will try the fuel in the carb and a new plug as you suggested too. Thanks.
