Still, you can't beat southern hospitality. Some of the nicest people in the whole wide world I met when I lived in NC. They're still very dear to me. Something to be said for the down home country folk of the south. Hence my rebel flag on my garage and the General Lee I'm paintin' across it, lol. That wasn't a joke dude. That'll go over like a fart in church here in NY, lmao...

OK guys, that was funny, but I'm still in the dark with these boiler things?????

Over here a boiler is an ole chicken that's stopped layin'! :D

Lookin good, nice place, gonna be toasty.

That wood pile looks a leetle small though.:D

OK, I'll admit it ....

.... I never seen anything like that, how about some inside pics of that thing.

What does it do and what is running around the place in the pipes??? Hot water? Like what have you been doing for hot water up till now?

And how long does the wood last? ... like you gotta go all the way down there in the freezing cold every 4 hours or something????

I'm intigued with these lengths you Yanks go to with all this wood burning heating boiler stuff .... we're into airconditioners and fans here, dont even use a heater in winter.

Ekka,

I thought you just lived a sheltered life until I noticed you live in Aust.
These things are super popular in the cold climates here in the states. I had one for 3 years but opted to sell it and put an indoor boiler in my garage so I did'nt freeze to death while tending the fire. The wife wasn't to keen on going outside and throwing wood in it while I was at work.

Just do a google search on outdoor wood boilers or outdoor wood furnaces and you will have plenty of info on them to keep you busy for quite a while.

Yeah I had a good google and read numerous reports on how smokey and polluting they are.

There's a lot of argument over how long a load lasts in the burner, but the advantage seems being able to heat more than one building if you have farm with sheds etc.

I couldn't imagine living in places so cold, a lot of BSing around trying to stay warm.

EKKA,
The whole polluting debate is, in my opinion, completely blown out of perportion by the tree huggers here in the states. While a few do smoke it has alot to do with the kind of wood burned and if you even do burn wood. Alot of people burn their trash in them and then the smoke will bellow out of it.
The one I had did not smoke AT ALL !! yes, that's right, no smoke at all. I burned good dry red oak only and it did not smoke.
I sold it because I was sick of freezing to death and no matter what people will tell you, the are very inefficient. I have heard people say they get 26-20 hour burns I say Prove it !!! This is a flat out lie . you would be really lucky to get 8-10 hours. The only reasont they claimsuch high burn times is pride and they don't want to admit that the dealer suckered them into thinking they can get 20 hours.

I can hook multiple buildings up to my new indoor ( garage ) boiler and I get 9 hours of burn time on Bituminous coal with the temp at 10 deg outside and I am happy with that.

I like the cold weather. It is refreshing to fill your lungs with cold crisp air in the morning... Skiing, riding snowmobiles, hunting in the winter, sledding with the kids, it is great fun...

:blob5:

the polution claims are BS.

my buddy just put in a central boiler on his new house.you can't even see smoke coming out of the chimney unless you open the door.

it easily goes for 2 days on a load and that is about half a hopper full.you don't stuff them full.

i heard rumors some jack ass was burning tires and garbage in one here and they got real strict on them.always an ??????? out to ruin it for everybody.
