I completed dissassembling the 029 this evening after receiving the used tank in the mail today. As suggested, I chased the threads of the collar bolt hole with a 10mm tap and used the double nut method described in an earlier post to put the collar bolt / back bar stud back. It worked great.

I have a question, however, with regard to the positioning of the ignition wires when I reinstall the ignition module. There are four sets of wires to deal with:
  • high tension lead to spark plug
  • short grounding wire going from cylinder grounding screw to coil, with a 1/2" loose protective sleeve (not sure where it should be positioned)
  • second grounding wire which also goes from cylinder grounding screw to coil but then mates with wire that goes to kill switch as part of 2-wire harness (see below)
  • 2 wire harness that goes to kill switch

My question is in what order should these be pressed into the slot. Right now, I pushed the high tension lead in first, then the two grounding wires into the skinny slot, then the 2-wire harness going to the kill switch. Is this right? I am not sure where the 1/2" sliding protective sleeve should go since its not clear what it is protecting.

I have attached a picture showing how i have them placed now but I don't know if it is correct. Does anyone have a picture of the correct wire placement?

Oh...and I added a picture of the cylinder taken with my cell phone on the exhaust side.

Thanks!

from looking at the manual it looks like the protective sleeve goes directly behind the grommet where the wires pass through to the main switch. the ground lead from the coil should go to the switch and the ground from the cylinder should go to the grounding plate that the switch makes contact with. I could have that backwards but the length of the wires should be enough to determine the proper placement of the wires

I had the same problem with this a few days ago. Took me a few minutes to figure it out.
