While ago i posted some questions on a Northern tools powerhorse log splittor. Finally made the plunge and i met the truck on the road to unload the 360lb box. 3 Hr assembly time. Also purcashed a log graple to help me along so i dont have to keep rolling the rounds over a log chain to pick them up. Ive been working on this 3 hrs everynight when i get off of work and its everything ive been saving that has been awaiting to be split. New stuff was fresh this year on the left and stuff on the right is up to 3 yrs old. The splittor has been working very well for what i need. Samller stuff that i can handle the 2 way wedge is great. The bigger stuff i try not to move the round back and forth.. just takes a bit longer but it goes through

Side of the pile.. Notice the aux water drain holes in the ole pickup

Got to get a shot of the hydro in.. its a IH workhorse. The loader will be coming off and redone. We bought it that way and i frown on how that was welded

Even my father likes running it.. He aproves of the splittor also

Thanks for the replies. Ive noticed 1 thing on the splittor that i think will be an issue.. To tight of hydaulic hoses. Unless they decide to stretch i do believe there going to rub through on a bracket. The wedge stops about 1" from the butt plates so if there is some stringy wood going through it can be a hassle some times. The beam is already wearing down some metal on the outside of the cylinder and i think it will eventually cause damage in the future so ill have to see if i cant put some shims on the beam to prevent this. Also ill need to drill a few holes on the outside of the splittor for grease zirks. Already went through a tube of grease in a week trying to prevent metal to metal wear

There is an easy way to deal with that.......
We have a Husky 35ton with the wedge on the ram and like you say the ram doesn't go all the way to the shoe.... We set a block of wood between the shoe and the chunk we are splitting........ Takes care of all the stringy stuff.

I like your hoist setup.

Thaks Tim. I wish i made 1 of those years ago. I bought the atv winch new in the box for $70 and the round tubing cost about $50. All the plate and square steel i had on hand. I got 3' channel going across the top of the frames and welded solid. So far it has lifted everything ive wanted to.. To bad the pickup is only 1/2 ton.

Valekbrothers- ive found by keep a small chunk of wood within reach its getting used more and more often. Its the fresh cut stuff, elm i think is a real pain. Ive gotten almost all of this years cutting all split minus 2 rounds and except some 8ft maple that hopefully i put to use besied firewood. The 2-3 year old stuff is poppin faster then i can keep up and is a breeze working with

I like the old GMC truck! Reminds me of my turd '75 Chevy... I love my old rust bucket.
