Ok i had nothing to do, a wire welder, and a good idea so.....

i built a small mill like the one grandberg sells.

mostly out of 1" and 1 1/2" square tube a little 1/8" plate and 4 bolts.

if the pics don't work for you i can repost them a lot smaller.

I have a wire feed welder, often have nothing to do and yet I went and bought the small mill. Guess I lacked the good idea. Thanks to threads like this I am doing a lot more fabbing and such than I was a year ago. Just so you know, I like the big pics. Also just so you know, your pics are going in my things to remember and copy someday folder.

stay tuned i am going to the farm on Friday i got 2 sections of Doug fir to mill.

i need lumber to build my "Saw Shack" ( garden shed ).

the sections are salvage timber so already dry.

Nice little mill Oregon.. wish I had a welder, I have lots of ideas myself, but not the time needed to implement them. Looks like you drilled holes in that bar to attach it? I have plans (still in my head at this point) to make a huge Granberg style mill, one that will mill over 4 ft, as I have a tree that large I would like to slice into pieces for a tabletop. Maybe this summer

well as i only cut soft wood with this saw it shouldn't be to hard on it.

although it did not want to start after the first cut i think in need a carb kit.

well hear are the pics of what i did get done.

is there much flex at the end of the bar?
how did that dry timber saw without a ripping chain?
does she cut pretty square?
looks good!

as it is a laminated bar it doesn't flex very much. surprisingly it cuts well with the standard chain i think i will make a ripping chain though. it cuts pretty square i just have to watch it when i set it up.

wow!

oh my god! i made a ripping chain for my mill it went through that piece of oak 3 times faster than my standard chains. it did cut a little rougher but waaaaaay faster.

also i cleaned the saw up put in new spark plug ( the right one) and re gaped coil and plug, also re tuned carb. now it runs better and cleaner lost less smoke but almost as rich as it can go and run right.

and starts way easer.
