Hello eveybody out there in Arborist land,

Just tried out my new Makita DCS 6401 on a big Ponderosa pine today. It worked great and didn't miss a beat. I used to have a 20" Homelite 330 and it worked great, but that has been some time back. Getting back to a big saw was cool. I am really impressed by how well the Makita performed. Just thought that I would tell the:jester: story to anyone that is a 6401 fan. Thanks for listening !!!!

Congrats on your new saw...

BTW: its really a Dolmar saw. German make. Makita owns them and puts a teal green Makita color on them for their own line (brand recognition). DCS: Dolmar Chain Saw. But congrats on the saw. You are now well on your way to buying more chainsaws. Its called chainsaw disease, and in your specific case, Dolmar Syndrone (or maybe it would be better to call it Makita Madness?.

I am looking for a Makita or Dolmar 401 (smaller frame) right now myself. No Dolmar dealers for 100 miles of here. Oh, and enjoy your HAPPY START button. Most people call them decompression buttons, but Makita calls them the Happy Start button. The '01' at the end of the Dolmar product number denotes a decomp button. Odd too that the Dolmar equivalent (6400) does not have the decomp/Happy button which to me would make the Makita the better saw. Easier on the wrist anyway.

Happy happy joy joy! :rockn:

good deal
now go outside and try to use it up so you can put a 7900 jug and piston on it!!!!
I love them dolmars in blue. I tried to buy a 7901 but the 6401 is now the biggest saw that makita carries :(

The Dolmar 7900 Cylinder and piston kit is $189 here at a site sponsor. When you are ready for closed port action of 79cc's compared to the 64cc's of the open port. Just letting you know for the just in case times.
But i think you will be real happy with that saw.

All the Dolmar PS-6400, 7300, & 7900's imported in the US have a decompression valve installed

USA Dolly decomp models

That's cool that the bigger USA Dollies have a happy button. But if that's the case, why are they not '01' model numbered?

And why no cecomp on the now famous 5100?

The "01" was just a makita thing on that series. We've been asking for the deco valves standard on the PS5100s before they were even released.

Let me know if and when they add a decomp button on the 5100's....my ehp one has gobs of compression and takes a pretty hard pull to start.

The cylinders are the same as on the PS5000, and those have been availiable with decomp valve from the outset, so this is really odd..............:bang: :bang:
