Does anyone know what kind of wood this is?
Found in Silver Spring, Maryland, very sun bleached and dried out--images below. I'd like to drill a hole in its base to mount it, since it looks a lot like a cow skull, but am worried about splitting the whole thing in two.
Grateful for any thoughts & thank you!

Its just driftwood. There is hundreds of pieces like that by my house. Looks to be part of the roots of maybe a pine tree. Just guesing on the type because I have a piece very simular color, texture that is pine. If will be fine to drill a hole in it.

If you found it along the potomac it probably is sycamore.

Definitely could've been taken from the Potomac--it was found near the intersection of Jones Mill Rd. and East-West Hwy., propped up against the base of a different type of tree (apple?).
