Hey all, looking for a unit to put in my new addition to the house. Does anyone here own one of these and care to share their thoughts?? Thanks much for your insight!

The Napoleon NZ6000 is a nice looking unit and a good seller for Nap. However, when looking for a ZC fireplace you need to take into consideration the following:

1) The room it goes into. We deal a lot with designers and architects and they will tell you there is nothing that looks more silly than a small fireplace into a huge hearth. So if this will be placed into a large room with cathedral ceiling with floor to ceiling hearth, get the biggest you can afford.

2) The heat output you want from this unit. Are you expecting this unit to put a serious amount of heat and even heat most of your place? Then you need an EPA unit. Or are you after the look? If so there are myriads of choice but better get the wife involved. The non EPA units are not very efficient (including the NZ6000) therefore you wont get much heat out of it.

3) Your budget. The NZ6000 is north of $6,000. But you have to take into account the flue size. The bigger the more expensive it becomes. There is a significant difference in price between a 6" and an 8" or bigger chimney.

If you want to look at a good brand available locally to you, why not look at Valcourt? If you have a huge room and a big hearth you could look at the Frontenac. It's the biggest EPA (low mass certification) unit in the market at 9.4 Cu Ft. It comes with a guillotine glass door and screen. What this means is the glass and screen disappear up in the unit. It's also a 'clean face' which looks more like an open fireplace. Cleaner burning decorative wood fireplaces - FP11 Frontenac - Qualified Clean Burning Decorative Fireplace They are not as efficient as an EPA model but since you throw a lot of wood in there they will throw heat. However, you cannot put a blower on them. This is a little over $6,000.

Another option is to get a large EPA model since they are very efficient and you can put an optional forced air blower to pipe some heat into other rooms.

The Valcourt Versailles High efficiency wood fireplaces - FP9 Versailles - High efficiency wood burning fireplace is the biggest EPA Phase 2 (Washington State) available on the market at 3.5 Cu Ft. You can install a hot air gravity kit (to draw more heat in your room) & a forced air kit to heat some other rooms.

There's also different models in the web site you and your spouse may be interested in. Go on the web site dealer locator. Looks like there's at least 2 dealers near you: Hearth & Home and Grass Roots Energy.

Let me know if you have any questions, I work for the MFG.
